JUNE CRISFIELD CHAPMAN 1934-2017

Marcel Marceau painted in his dressing room
Oil on canvas 40 by 30 inches

June Crisfield Chapman studied at the Glasgow School of Art.

Fascinated by faces and character, she produced directly from life, lively portraits in oil on canvas and in various dry media on paper.

Her wood engraving has two main themes - plant form and literature/theatre subjects. It shows her awareness of the dramatic possibilities of black and white and of form that is achievable by clear, clean line, the essential nature of engraving.

Her gouache work is often combined with pastel and charcoal and has similar themes.
